Braces & Invisalign®

Braces & Invisalign®

Braces & Invisalign®

Clear aligners, also known as clear-aligner treatment, are orthodontic devices that are a transparent, plastic form of dental braces used to adjust teeth.

Invisalign is a teeth straightening system made of a clear plastic.

The treatment devices are called aligners. These aligners are custom fitted to the teeth and will snap into place easily. The aligners move the teeth into the correct place of alignment over time. Invisalign is intended for use in people who have mild to moderate teeth misalignment but is not meant for extreme misalignment. Invisalign is particularly popular today because it offers an alternative to traditional metal braces.

Why Choose Invisalign?

The number one reason that many patients choose Invisalign is so that they can avoid metal braces completely while still getting the straighter teeth they desire. Because Invisalign is clear plastic, other people may not be aware that it’s there. Another reason that many people like Invisalign is that they can eat and drink without restriction. The aligners are removed for meals, so patients can eat normally without worrying about the complications that associate with traditional, metal braces.

How Long Does Treatment With Invisalign Last?

This varies by patient. On average, Invisalign treatment lasts around a year, but it can be as short as 6 months or as long as 18 months in some cases. Usually, Invisalign treatment is faster than traditional braces. Contact our office today for a consultation for Invisalign.

How is Invisalign Different Than Traditional Braces?

Traditional metal braces can give a person a “metal mouth” appearance because each tooth has a metal bracket on it, and the brackets are then connected by metal wires. The brackets and wires will be tightened periodically to slowly move the teeth into the correct position. Invisalign does not include any brackets, wires, or other metal. Patients will wear two aligners, one for the top half of the mouth and one for the bottom half of the mouth. The aligners are firm yet flexible and fit the teeth very precisely since they are custom made. Every 2 weeks, those aligners are swapped for new ones. At the end of treatment, the teeth will be shifted into an improved state of alignment.
